This day in Sex Pistols history... October 28th 1977. Release of 'Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols' the Sex Pistols one and only true LP.
On the album's release, more controversy surrounded the band when police took exception to its title being displayed in a shop window. The band were charged with the obscure Indecent Advertising Act of 1889! "Bollocks" is a slang name for testicles; however, the Pistols' lawyer proved that it was actually derived from a nickname for clergymen! Bollocks was legal!

but, according to it, a French pressing started arriving in the UK before the record was first produced here, and threw the UK production into panic-induced chaos.

Yeah, there are a few versions these days. I was talking about the original, if for some reason that needed pointing out. And anyway the original was better than Spunk and the other demo/unreleased versions anyway.

The barrister who won the "bollocks" case was actually John Mortimer, the writer who created Rumpole of the Bailey.
And yes, it is one of the greatest albums ever produced. Not a duff track on it.

It is a superb album apart from the cultural impact it had.
Great songs, fabulous production, John Lydon spitting venom and captured the anger of the 70s perfectly. Never mind the silver fucking jubilee this was the spirit of 77.

I always loved Noel Gallagher's opening line from when I heard him give his opinion of the album:
"When you put the needle on the record and you heard those jackboots marching you knew, you just knew, it was game over. Nothing else needed to come after that"

This was a game changer, the music industry in the 70’s was controlled by corporations and fronted by sex cases.
We had lived through political turmoil, Unemployment at its peak, 3 day weeks and constant striikes. Power cuts, Rubbish and rats piling up in the streets
The music was anarchic but it went deeper into society.
